What click heatmaps show

Aurora Heatmap Premium displays recorded user clicks as heatmaps for desktop and mobile pages in WordPress. Compare activity across page areas, check whether calls to action receive clicks, and find content or layouts to review.

A selection algorithm determines which activity is recorded, and administrator access is excluded. Heatmap totals may therefore be lower than site access counts; use the maps to examine behavior patterns rather than count every visit.

From activation to dashboard results

Install and activate the add-on to begin collecting activity. No coding or complex setup is required, and it works by default in most WordPress environments. Depending on site traffic, data may take a few hours to two days to create up.

Activity is sent through Ajax communication as often as necessary. The dashboard shows recorded data after you reload the screen, rather than updating automatically in real time.

Choose recording accuracy

High accuracy is recommended for an accurate heatmap. If recording is insufficient, try Standard. Changing from High accuracy deletes the previous standard data; changing to Standard begins recording standard data from that point onward.

Page and device details

Heatmap data is associated with the page URL. If you change a permalink or post slug, the new address is treated as a separate page. When you view a mobile heatmap from a PC on a site that switches pages by User-Agent rather than using responsive styling, view the heatmap on a mobile device.

Premium coverage and data handling

The paid edition has no restrictions on the number of pages or page views analyzed. It includes priority email support, weekly email, and an unread-detection tab with click, breakaway, and attention heatmaps.

Aurora Heatmap works within your WordPress installation without a separate heatmap service account. It does not use cookies, track users, send recorded data to an external server, or record personally identifiable data, including IP addresses. Premium use requires a monthly or annual license.

Cache compatibility and troubleshooting

Aurora Heatmap can be used with WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, and WP Super Cache. If a cache extension interferes with measurement, turn off JavaScript-related optimization or exclude jQuery and the Aurora Heatmap measurement script, reporter.js, from optimization.

If data does not appear, clear the cache and check that the site is receiving visitors. Extremely low traffic may result in little or no counting.
