Optimized files are written back to the Media Library without changing image URLs.
Process new uploads and existing media

Review the compression mode before processing. Lossless compression suits logos, illustrations and images where fidelity matters. Lossy compression applies stronger reduction while keeping quality changes minimal. High compression targets greater file-size reduction, and custom compression lets you set a quality level. Robin Pro also includes PageSpeed compression, with settings tuned for PageSpeed and performance audits.
Choose formats and check delivery
Robin optimizes JPG, PNG and GIF files, including animated GIFs. The base add-on converts JPG and PNG images to WebP without limits on the number of images. Robin Pro includes AVIF conversion; AVIF can produce smaller files than WebP in many cases while maintaining high image quality. GIF files are optimized but are not converted to WebP or AVIF.
When a browser supports WebP or AVIF, Robin can deliver that format. Browsers without support receive the original format as a fallback. This keeps the original image format available for compatible delivery across browsers.
Manage processing, backups and metadata
Bulk processing runs in batches, which is useful for an established Media Library. Pro background optimization uses scheduled processing to work through images gradually without blocking the WordPress administration interface. Custom folder optimization extends processing to images outside the Media Library, including files in theme directories and extension assets.
Robin stores a backup of the original image before optimization. You can restore it or optimize the image again with different compression settings. Choose whether to remove EXIF data to reduce file size and improve privacy, or preserve it for photography and other workflows that use image metadata.
Robin Pro also includes WP-CLI commands: wp robin optimize, wp robin stop and wp robin status. Available scopes include the Media Library, custom folders and NextGEN.
Set up the workflow
Install Robin Pro in WordPress and review the optimization settings. Choose a compression mode, decide how to handle EXIF data, and select automatic optimization for new uploads or bulk processing for existing images. Enable the Pro options needed for AVIF, PageSpeed compression, background processing or custom folders. Enable backups to restore originals or try different settings later.
