WPIDE brings file management and code editing into the WordPress dashboard. WPIDE Pro adds paid tools for recovering unsaved edits, working with core documents and configuration, and handling image and database tasks. Feature availability varies by plan, and file access depends on hosting permissions.
Recover edits and compare changes
Auto Save periodically writes your work to a separate draft file at an interval you select. It leaves the original file unchanged, so if you close the editing page before saving manually, you can use the draft to recover your work. Auto Saved Quick Diff compares that draft with the current file and lets you choose whether to restore the draft or keep the current version. A full-screen toggle gives the editor more space.
Reach core files and manage configuration
With File Manager Advanced Mode enabled, files and folders beyond the usual add-on and theme locations are available for editing, including WordPress core files and wp-config.php. The Config Manager shows constants defined in wp-config.php and can add, update, or remove them, with checks to help prevent duplicates.
Make image and database changes
The Advanced Image Editor can resize and crop pictures, apply filters, add frames or corners, and place text, stickers, patterns, or gradients. The Database Manager lets you view and create tables, add, update, or delete rows, change table structure, and update column indexes.
Find files and work across them
Use the file tree, context menu, custom root path, deep search, and folder-size calculation to locate files. The file manager works with creating, copying, moving, duplicating, previewing, downloading, uploading, archiving, and deleting files or directories. Batch downloads and uploads, ZIP and unzip operations, and drag-and-drop uploads are also available. File operations use the WordPress Filesystem API.
The tabbed editor supports multiple files, line numbers, find and replace, syntax highlighting, matching-parenthesis highlighting, automatic indentation, code folding, and keyboard commands. WordPress and PHP autocomplete, PHP parsing and validation, backups before saving, and a File Recovery Wizard support file editing. WPIDE also includes an image gallery and a player for video and audio files.
Use the tools for the task at hand
Open the file tree or search for a file, then use editor tabs to move between files. For important edits, compare the autosaved draft with the current file before choosing which version to keep. Use Advanced Mode, configuration controls, image editing, or database tools when the task calls for them, and review changes before applying them.
