Connect a GA4 property

  1. Create a Google Analytics 4 account and obtain its tracking, or measurement, ID.
  2. Enter the ID in the GA Tracking ID setting.
  3. Select GA4 as the tracking method, configure any other settings you need, and save.

Use an active, properly configured account. Collected data may take 24-48 hours to appear in Google Analytics.

Manage codes and tracking coverage

  • Configure multiple tracking codes, preview them, and choose where they appear.
  • Add custom code in the header or footer and tailor tracking code with your own markup. Links and conversions can also be tracked through the Custom Code setting.
  • Display a visitor opt-out box automatically or place it with a shortcode. The frontend box lets visitors opt in or out of Google Analytics tracking.
  • Exclude logged-in visitors, specific post IDs, visitor roles, post types, search results, or post archives.
  • Use settings for Display Advertising, Enhanced Link Attribution, IP Anonymization, Force SSL, and Consent Signals. Tracker Objects and the listed user opt-out support apply to Universal Analytics.

Tracking methods and settings

GA4 is the recommended method. Universal Analytics and Legacy Tracking are also listed, but the source identifies them as deprecated or disabled by Google. The plugin includes options to disable tracking for admin-level users or enable page tracking in the WordPress Admin Area. It works with or without the Gutenberg Block Editor.

Installation and code checks

Add and activate the plugin, open its settings, enter the GA4 measurement ID, select GA4, configure the tracking and exclusion options you need, and save. To check whether the tracking code was added, view the page source. If it is missing, check that the theme includes the wp_head and wp_footer hooks, clear any caching plugin cache, and check for interference from another plugin or theme. The tracking code must correspond to an active, properly configured Google Analytics account.
