Page layout and styling
Change the site, header, navigation, content, and footer widths. Set background colors, select and style a page background picture, align website branding, and style the site title and description. Color controls also cover paragraphs, headings, links, menus, and footer elements.
Front page and post listings
For a static front page, add sections, display featured images in the section blog, set the height of section parallax images, and add menu anchor links to sections. Blog and search pages can be set to one column. Home and archive pages can generate post excerpts automatically, with a setting for the maximum word count.
- Add widget areas below page titles or place a widget sidebar in the header area.
- Add “Back to top” links and fix them to the browser window’s bottom right.
- Adjust content spacing, featured image borders, page and archive titles, post metadata, tag and category links, and post navigation.
Header images, parallax, and video
Set the home page header image height, use a featured image as the header image, or show the full-size header image. Hide the header image everywhere except the home page, or hide site branding on other pages. Apply true parallax to featured images in front page sections or to the cover image, or remove the parallax effect from front page section images.
For header video, hide the YouTube video until it loads, pause it when the user scrolls, or disable looping for an MP4 video.
Menus, widgets, and typography
Remove the main menu scroll-down arrow, set the sticky menu width, remove the mobile menu label, change menu padding and background styling, and rotate submenu arrows. You can also hide the site title and description outside the home page, adjust footer branding, and prevent the Libre Franklin Google font from loading, an option described as a way to increase page speed.
A social network menu can be displayed in content with the [social-links] shortcode. Review the available settings with the Twenty Seventeen theme and choose the adjustments that fit the site’s front page, blog, search pages, header, and footer.
