Sequential Order Number for WooCommerce Premium: Formats and Resets
WordPress uses a shared ID system for posts, pages, media, and WooCommerce orders. An ID may already belong to other content when an order is created, so order numbers can have gaps. Sequential Order Number for WooCommerce Premium gives orders a custom sequence and format for clearer references. It can format new orders and apply the chosen format to existing orders.
Why WooCommerce order numbers can skip
WordPress uses a shared ID system for posts, pages, media, and WooCommerce orders. An ID may already belong to other content when an order is created, so order numbers can have gaps. Sequential Order Number for WooCommerce Premium gives orders a custom sequence and format for clearer references. It can format new orders and apply the chosen format to existing orders.
For a store with no existing orders, numbering can start at 1 or at another value you choose. If orders already exist, the sequence can continue from the latest order number. You can also keep existing numbers during setup.
Choose a number format
Select an order number template, then configure the starting number, prefix, order length, and increment. Premium includes more templates, a custom suffix, and the option to include the order date as a suffix. Preview the configured number before saving.
- Set a starting number and custom increment.
- Choose an order number length and add a prefix or suffix.
- Include the order date as a suffix.
- Select from additional templates that combine the number with supported elements.
Set reset and free-order behavior
Schedule order number resets daily, monthly, or yearly. You can also assign free orders a separate custom sequence, distinct from the main sequence.
Find and track orders
Use admin search to find orders by their custom numbers and track order details. The add-on supports subscription orders and WooCommerce custom order numbers. Product information lists compatibility with HPOS and related shipment tracking, subscription, payment, invoice, packing slip, order import and export, point-of-sale, refund, and payment gateway add-ons. When an integration retrieves order data, use the order number instead of the underlying order ID where applicable.
Install and configure
Install and activate the plugin in WordPress, then open its settings. Choose a starting number and template, configure the prefixes, suffixes, date, increment, length, reset schedule, and separate free-order sequence as needed, and review the preview before saving. For existing orders, decide whether to retain their current numbers or apply the configured sequence before completing setup.
