Media Hygiene Pro: WordPress Media Scanning and Cleanup
Media Hygiene Pro scans WordPress content and supported extension data for references to images, files, audio, and video. Its dashboard lists files with no reference found in the sources it reads, along with details such as file name, URL, size, and type. That result describes the scan coverage; it does not prove a file is unused everywhere. References created at page load by shortcodes or dynamic tags, and media registered in custom code, may be missed.
Review media with no detected references
Media Hygiene Pro scans WordPress content and supported extension data for references to images, files, audio, and video. That result describes the scan coverage; it does not prove a file is unused everywhere. Review the list before removing files, and keep a current backup. A file is removed only after you select it and confirm. You can whitelist files to keep them out of future scans, including files linked from other sites.
Check builders and add-on data in more places
Pro checks supported page builders in saved templates, theme settings, headers, footers, and custom post types. Supported builders and themes include Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, Bricks, Visual Composer, OceanWP, LayerSlider, WP Bakery Page Builder, Beaver Builder, Avada, and Flatsome.
Pro also reads media stored by supported plugins: Advanced Custom Fields picture, gallery, file, and repeater fields; WooCommerce product galleries, category images, downloadable files, and custom tabs; Pods; Custom Field Suite; Jet Engine; Yoast SEO; All in One SEO; SEO Press; Slider Revolution; Meta Slider; and Smart Slider.
Match files and find uploads without library records
Pro can match resized, scaled, rotated, and edited copies to their original files. It follows references in JSON and serialized data, and supports websites where the uploads folder has been moved. Folder Scan checks the uploads folder for files that have no database record.
The scanner recognizes common media library formats, including PDF, JPG and JPEG, PNG, GIF, MP4, MP3, CSV, ZIP, RAR, and TXT.
Filter results and select how to handle files
Filter the list by file name, date, year, or type. Review files by page or individually, whitelist items to protect them, or download files you want to retain. Quarantine moves files aside so they can be restored if needed. You can also use one-shot utilities to download or delete the full list, and WP-CLI commands for large libraries where browser timeouts are a concern.
Install Media Hygiene Pro on the WordPress website you want to review, run a scan, and inspect the dashboard results before choosing what to keep, quarantine, or remove. Direct support is available from inside the plugin.
