Set Pre-Publish Rules with PublishPress Checklists Pro

PublishPress Checklists Pro gives WordPress authors a checklist beside posts and pages while they work. Editors pick which tasks apply and set each one to Disabled, Recommended or Required. They can also choose who may ignore a task. Recommended items guide authors; an incomplete required task can prevent publication. Authors see incomplete items marked with a red X and completed items with a green checkmark.

Content, links and taxonomy rules

Set minimum or maximum character counts for titles and excerpts, and word counts for post content. Requirements can prohibit selected heading tags from H1 through H6 or prevent specific words from appearing. Other checks control the number of internal and external links, permalink characters, and the number of categories, tags or other taxonomy terms. You can require or prohibit particular terms. Link validation checks whether links use a valid format; it does not verify that destination pages work.

Publishing, approval and media tasks

Publishing checks can require a specific publish time or a publish date in the future. Approval tasks can require approval by a particular visitor or by someone in a specified role.

Image requirements can check ALT text, including minimum and maximum character counts, the number of images in content, image caption length, and whether a featured image is present. Separate tasks can check a featured image's ALT text, caption and dimensions. You can also set minimum or maximum counts for audio and video items in a post.

Accessibility and connected add-on data

Structural checks can require a single H1 in content, headings in logical order and a header row in tables. The add-on integrates with WooCommerce, Yoast SEO, All in One SEO, Rank Math SEO and Advanced Custom Fields, so checklist requirements can use data managed by those plugins. Examples include SEO and readability checks in Yoast, SEO score checks in Rank Math, SEO and headline score checks in All in One SEO, and field requirements in Advanced Custom Fields.

WooCommerce product requirements

For WooCommerce products, checklist tasks can cover excerpt length, product tags and categories, word count, featured images and product images. Requirements can also check product settings and data such as virtual or downloadable status, regular and sale prices, sale scheduling and discounts, SKU, stock management, individual sale settings, backorders, upsells and cross-sells.

OpenAI and custom checklist tasks

OpenAI requirements use prompts to assess content, such as whether it is clear, uses an appropriate tone or has correct grammar and spelling. OpenAI includes a verdict that appears as a checklist result. You can also add custom tasks, such as requiring a particular word or a completed spell-check, and create more specialized requirements with a custom plugin.

To set up the workflow, configure the tasks for your publishing process, choose their status and limits, and define any approval, media or integration requirements. Authors then work through the applicable checklist beside their content before publication.
