Media Cleaner Pro: WordPress Media Scans and Review
Media Cleaner identifies media entries and files that may be unused, along with broken entries. Media Cleaner Pro extends analysis to the uploads directory, the online site, and references stored by complex content extensions and page builders.

Scan results can show a preview, why an item was flagged, its size, and where a file is referenced. The scan can also report which builders and add-ons it works with and what it cannot see. Review findings carefully because dynamic or unsupported references may not be visible to the scan.
Review results before deleting files
Items moved to Media Cleaner’s internal trash can be checked and recovered. Permanent deletion requires explicit confirmation. Keep a backup plan in place before cleanup, especially when files may be referenced across several parts of a website.
Pro scan methods and server access
- Filesystem Analysis scans the physical /uploads directory and matches files against the WordPress Media Library. This can help locate files that are no longer represented correctly in the library.
- Live Site Scan analyzes the online version of the website and may improve accuracy in some cases.
- WP-CLI support lets administrators execute scans at higher speed or automate them through direct server access over SSH.
References in builders and content plugins
Pro adds support for complex tools, including ACF, Meta Box, Divi Builder, Fusion Builder for Avada, WPBakery Page Builder, Visual Composer, Elementor, Beaver Builder, Brizy Builder, Oxygen Builder, Slider Revolution, Justified Image Grid, and Avia Framework, with support for many more. This helps inspect media stored in custom fields, builder layouts, sliders, and other content structures.
Media Cleaner supports media types including retina and WebP versions. It has been tested with Gutenberg and a range of themes, and supports WooCommerce.
Optional assistant process through MCP
Media Cleaner can be driven by an AI assistant through the MCP server of AI Engine. When MCP is enabled in Media Cleaner settings, an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can run a scan, read results, explain why media was reported, ignore false positives, and help with cleanup. The tools report supported plugins and builders, along with what the scan cannot see, so doubtful findings can be reviewed. Files still go to trash first, and permanent deletion requires explicit confirmation.
Run and review a scan
Install Media Cleaner Pro in WordPress, open its settings, and configure the available scan options. Run a scan, review the reported media and files, then move appropriate entries to the internal trash. Check the results before confirming permanent deletion.
