Maps Widget for Google Maps PRO is a paid WordPress extension for adding maps to widgets, pages, posts, and custom post types. Its thumbnail uses the Google Maps Static Maps API and loads the map in one request. Visitors can open an interactive map in a lightbox or display it in place of the thumbnail.

Map previews and styling

Set the thumbnail width, height, and zoom level, then pick a road, satellite, terrain, or hybrid map. PRO also supports a custom map image. Choose from available color schemes or create a custom map style. Pin controls include type, color, size, label, and icon; PRO includes a library of more than 1,500 pins and lets you use an image as a custom pin icon.

Interactive map and lightbox options

Choose whether a thumbnail opens a lightbox, links to a custom URL, changes into an interactive map, shows the interactive map immediately, or has no link. The lightbox can use set dimensions that adjust on smaller screens, or display a fullscreen map. Interactive map modes include directions, search, view, and Google Street View.

Additional controls include lightbox skins, closing when users click the overlay or press Escape, a close button, and an optional map title. Set the map language, hide the widget title, and add text above or below the map.

Multiple pins and placement

Add unlimited pins with custom markers and descriptions. Choose whether each pin appears on the thumbnail, the interactive map, or both. When selected, a pin can open a description bubble, link to a URL in the same or a new tab, or do nothing. PRO includes clustering and filtering support for maps with multiple pins.

Place a configured map in a page, post, or custom post type with the shortcode [gmw id="#"]. PRO also includes export and import, widget cloning, Google Analytics integration, and premium USA-based support.

Setup

After installing the extension, open Appearance > Widgets in WordPress and add a Maps Widget for Google Maps to a sidebar. Generate a Google Maps API key and save it in the plugin settings; a key is required for maps to work. To add a map to a page or post, copy its shortcode and paste it into the content area.
